The Changing Voice

Pubescent Voice

I think we’ve all had a friendly chuckle at ourselves and others when our voice, without warning, suddenly breaks into a spoken kind of yodel. And if you’re currently going through puberty, especially if you’re male, these funny little voice breaks can be all too common. Why does your pubescent voice do that and is there anything you can do to stop your voice from flipping out?

Your voice, as you travel through life, will move through many chapters. Each separate developmental stage has its own set of challenges and rewards. Today we’re going to focus on the pubescent voice, or what voice scientists sometimes label as ‘mutational voice.’

The teenage years can be a crazy time for young people. The body changes in so many wonderful ways as we enter adulthood. And of course, one of those significant changes occurs in the voice.
