So you want to teach singing...but you don’t know where to start! Learning to be a singing teacher is a wonderful journey of discovery and personal development. When done well teaching people to sing can also provide the successful teacher with a great income during flexible hours. Dr Daniel Kay, Djarts Principal Voice Coach, has trained many young singing teachers in the art of teaching people to sing, and now Djarts is proud to offer Dr Dan’s 12 session course, “Djarts Student Teacher”. Designed specifically as preparatory work for entrance into formal Pedagogy courses that insist on ’teaching experience’ for entrance, the “Djarts Student Teacher” course covers a wide range of the necessary ’beginner’ skills required to become a great singing teacher. |

NB: This course is designed to ‘get you started’ in a professional manner. Students who complete the 12 sessions are encouraged to extend their learning with further study and reading. |

Actually...quite a bit! Djarts believes in providing a quality service to all our clients, and this high standard extends to all participants of the “Djarts Student Teacher” course. Candidate Observation: All prospective course participants must receive either one term of weekly or two terms of fortnightly individual lessons with Dr Daniel Kay prior to commencement of the course. This is a vetting process during which observation is made of the candidates commitment to the profession of singing, both in their personal development and eagerness to learn. 12 Session Course: The “Djarts Student Teacher” course is completed over 12-15 sessions, generally conducted fortnightly over 2-3 terms. Lessons are charged at the ‘Individual Lesson’ rate (as per Daniel Kay’s rate). ‘Student Teachers’ must also continue a weekly individual singing lesson with Daniel Kay for the duration of the Student Teacher course. Course Requirements: Before commencement students are required to: 1. Purchase Reading Texts: ¶ The Private Voice Studio (Boytim, 2003) ¶ Ultimate Vocal Voyage (Borch, 2005) ¶ Healthy Singing (Wingate, 2008) 2. Become a member of ANATS (Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing). 3. Obtain a Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian. 4. Subscribe to the ‘Individual Lessons’ Terms and Conditions of Enrolment. 5. Obtain Teacher’s Insurance. ANATS recommends AAA Entertainment Insurance Solutions. Contact Jason on (07) 3123 6919 or email. Be sure to consider the financial commitment required to complete the journey. The course will take approximately 12 months to complete. The sessions, including candidate observation and continuing weekly tuition, will cost approximately $4500 (40+ singing lessons & the 12 “Student Teacher” sessions). Additional costs include the purchase of reading texts and the commencement of building your studio; not to mention the time required to complete the tasks (homework) set after each session. Singing Teaching is not for the feint of heart or will. In order for you to become a great teacher, you must first submit yourself to the journey of learning...great teachers are always great students! |
